Christmas Book Fair

I like visiting the book fairs in Sofia. We usually have two per year, one in December, and one in May. I would often go 3-4 times, slowly navigating through the landscape, buying 1-2 books at a time.

I went there with the goal to buy the new book by Nicci French and maybe return for another round over the next 3-4 days. Came back to the office with 8. That’s a bit too many. This means I’m not returning to the fair as I exceeded the reasonable maximum of new books for the month 🙂 Anything else will have to wait.

Highlights:

  • The Dungeon Crawler Carl – I have to admit I made a purchase decision based on the fact that this book has a hole in the cover. It also has a very high score on Goodreads but that wouldn’t have been enough to buy it.
  • The Devils by Joe Abercrombie – you can say by the beautiful print that Joe Abercrombie has a new publisher for Bulgaria. The last one only did paperbacks.
  • The Last Days of Kira Mullan – Maud O’Conner’s part 1 was quite interesting I hope this book lives up to the expectations. That would likely be the next book I’ll start (currently reading two other). I like Nicci French.

The book fair is over. I didn’t get as many books as I wanted because I already have too many. I need to be mindful about how much space they take and have not recently donated to the library to free up the shelves. I think I still got some pretty nice books.

Julie Kagawa in Sofia

I had the opportunity to get a signed copy of Julie Kagawa’s The Immortal Rules. It’s very rare to see a popular writer here in Sofia and I’m thankful for the opportunity to see her for a few moments in person.

She’ll also be giving autographs tomorrow afternoon at the Pro Book booth. It is the first tent looking from the pylons of the National Palace of Culture.

Spring Book Fair, Part 2

The weather was much nicer today, although I somehow messed up the photos and they all look like there was a fog. I visited most of the tents I couldn’t last time. There’s room for one final visit, hopefully for Julie Kagawa’s book signing during the weekend.

Got myself a fourth book. I showed much restraint, I was close to impulse buying books I didn’t plan to read.

Spring Book Fair, Sofia

Today was my first visit to the spring fair. The weather was cold and rainy, most tents were semi-closed or not open at all. I walked by a small fraction of the fair, visited two of the four publishers I wanted to find.

I plan to come back around the end of the week, when I have more time, and hopefully the books aren’t wet. There’s also a book signing with Julie Kagawa scheduled at the Pro Book tent on Saturday and Sunday. I hope to have a chance to meet her.

And my first round of harvest

Silo part 2 – Shift, Murderbot 4, and the latest translated book by Harlan Coben – Think Twice. I like his naming convention. Books are named like blog posts.
