EV Show in Sofia

I accidentally visited an EV car show in Sofia. Hundreds of Chinese cars lined up on the square, ready to be tested and purchased. Pretty cars, cheap cars, big cars, very big cars. I was impressed by the amount of marketing money invested to show all these cars.

Here are the vehicles that won my attention:

A 50-year-old trolleybus and a retro-sci-fi single-seater EV sports car that looked as if it was built in someone’s basement to be a bat mobile.

The other cars kind of explained a lot to me why people still drive their 20-year-old petrol cars.

Oh, and of course, here are some electric scooters.

The dark side and the darker side

This is a photo from my neighborhood. This is the dark, northern side of the buildings.

And this is a sidewalk, the legal way to cross the highway. Of course, there are other ways further away. I call this sidewalk “The middle path” because it’s medium inconvenience, and in my opinion, holds the highest risk for the pedestrians. Zoom in and you’ll see the leftovers of a flying car that somehow fell off the bridge without damaging the guard rails. Not an isolated accident. I’ve seen a flying car in the opposite part of the cloverleaf interchange.

Electric car license plates in Sofia

In November 2023, newly registered electric cars in Sofia began receiving license plates starting with EA (Electric Automobile). Electric vehicles have the right to park for free in the city center and this change probably makes it easier for everyone who uses the benefit. Me and my kids on the other hand started counting the cars. All newly registered cars would have plates that look like EA XXXX AA. We would try to find the highest number but it would always end with AA. Today we spotted an EA AB number, meaning that there are at least 10K electric cars registered since the introduction of the new plates in November.

2 electric cars, parked in the middle of nowhere, Poligona, one of which has the highest EA AB number on our family record. Looks like a Zoe.
