Cats, good books, AI, and religious walking in the city of Sofia

Okay, maybe not cheese but close enough. Somewhere in the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
A pedestrian underpass in Sofia was painted over the stone. The stone itself was covered with 50 years of graffiti. I saw the public criticism and decided to walk there during my lunch break.

Here’s how it looked before:

It’s not perfect but I like it painted. You have a surreal feeling when walking out because of the gradient.

Whoever painted it, just painted over all the trouble, and didn’t attempt to fix anything.

What do you think is better? Paint or stone covered with graffiti?

30 years ago, the most common graffiti were y-Maria, READ THE BIBLE, and Vapski. Whoever drew the last tag clearly improved a lot.
Y-Maria is also still around. Turned out she’s a driving instructor. Got my license with her.

This poster is almost graffiti art. Also shows what we lose with computer-assisted creativity.
The sign says “Videotapes for rent”.

Before 1989, private businesses were mostly not legal in my country. One of the first business types that kickstarted capitalism in Sofia was stores for lending video tapes. They were found in improvised spaces like car garages or electrical substations. It was fun to find a sign for one of these still not repainted. The sign looks fresh, almost like graffiti. Made me check if it actually works.
