I had an awesome 2 weeks off and it felt awesome, I wish my vacation was longer. However, watching the health app, it’s full of red flags everywhere.
🔴 Made on average about 3K steps per day during the 2 weeks 📉, with a decrease in all activity and calory metrics
🔴 Ate more meals, more each meal, and less healthy food each day, often with beer, ice cream, and fries 🍺
🔴 Gained 2-3kg 👻
🔴 I find it harder to make myself walk and climb stairs now that I’m back
Looking back, what did I do wrong?
The food in Greece, Spain, and generally all restaurant food in vacation destinations is tasty, the portions are big, and it’s full of fats, salts, and sugar. Unlike brunch places in Bulgaria that feed office workers, tourist trap areas feed tourists who only eat there for a short period. They are not incentivized to sell healthy food but rather to make guests pay more. Also, it’s hot, and hot encourages ice cream and beer. Hard to avoid that or is it?
My biggest wonder from this year is what happened with the steps. I went down from 10k to 3k. Why? Not sure. Living in a small village doesn’t leave that much room for walking but ours had a long beach alley. Walking was possible. I slipped somehow.
I feel you ❤️. My roommate is on their vacation now and I’m more free because of that as well. I feel the pounds creeping up. I’ve been less active since I last visited my family. The weather has been either poring rain or way too hot, and we’ve had takeout multiple times per week.
You’re not alone.

Do you try walking 10k/day? It’s been life changing for me (for now).

Not really 10k, but I usually measure it in hours. I’d like to walk for an hour a day, 5-6 times per week if possible, but that hasn’t been working due to the weather for ages.
Whenever I’m lucky enough to get that most wanted Great Dane, it will probably change, but I’d like to have that today already.

That’s probably not enough for a healthy lifestyle. Also, walking under the rain can be quite pleasurable.

I get in a really bad mood if I have to walk outside in poring rain. I hate it. I need to keep my sanity 😂. But I’m glad you like it. It would be nice if I could learn to like it too.

I was like that when facing stairs. 2 years into this religious walking thing, and some of it is gone. One day I may climb stairs without issues. No pain no gain.

Yeah I can walk forever but my health does not really improve. Using stairs helps tremendously with that!

Hmm, still, 1h is not much. That’s like 6k steps. And you can find uphill routes, increase the speed and the heart rate. Also, depends on the type of health issues. It works according to the studies but doesn’t mean it works universally.

Yeah I can’t remember the word that it’s supposed to help with 😂. I usually walk in pretty flat streets so my heart rate is low due to that. It’s high due to medical reasons but it hasn’t really gone down either from walking.

Yeah, I was hoping I can get mine a bit down with walking. I don’t observe improvements in that area but I’m also hiking, which was unthinkable and physically impossible 3-4 years ago.

You had fun though, right?

Yes, Greece is great but makes you fat and lazy. The kids like the beach.
