I slipped on my 10K-steps goal for November, despite having two additional weekend days in the month. I found it quite difficult to maintain the average and eventually didn’t make it. The weather, knee pain, lots of work, zero hiking, a couple of emergencies, and several low-energy days all contributed. At least WordCamp Sofia was good.

Idk man, those are good numbers despite

These things happen.
I’m sure you’ve investigated strengthening to alleviate the knee pain, so are there any lower impact things you could try instead of walking so much on days that it hurts? I know it doesn’t help the step count, but steps are just an easy-to-count means to an end anyway.

I’ll do an MRI next year to see what’s wrong with that knee. I had injuries as a teenager that I suspect were never properly treated and this is the consequence.
It would be good to find an alternative.

I have been very lucky (looking at a lot of my friends): I only really got into physical activities in my late teens/early 20s, and never at a very high standard! My knee injuries have so far only ever been muscle imbalances or related to my hypermobility.
I only averaged 8075 steps last month, so you’re still doing a good number.

Lots of studies have been conducted on the healthy number of steps per day. From what I’ve read, going up has strong and scientifically proved benefits from 3K to 7K, then good benefits from 7K to 10K. At 8K, you’re doing well but do not encounter as many cats as you could with 10k 🙂
I think the 10K is a marketing trick of some kind, like eating carrots. Easy to remember and sells fitness trackers.

I hope your knee is better. You’re just a little bit short.
