The knight templars had a sense of drama. The inverted tower in Sintra was used for initiating new knights who had to go downstairs blindfolded and then find the exit by listening to the sound of water.

I hope the new knights removed the blindfold by this moment. The pond is pretty.
Fascinating! I enjoy reading about the Knights, such a different time.

Yeah, good times for knights and clergy. Not great times for the ordinary folks.

Was Byron a Knight Templar?

Hmm. I don’t believe so. He was a major figure in the Romantic Movement and one of the premier British poets. He did fight alongside the Greeks when they sought to break from the Ottoman Empire, so he might have had romantic notions about the Templars. According to Wikipedia, he fought in the first and second sieges of Missolonghi, during which he contracted a fatal fever and died at the age of 36.

That is fascinating but also deadly. I wonder if there were guards or someone to guide them so they don’t tumble down.
Lovely pictures.

There was a shortcut in the middle so my guess is that they didn’t try too hard 🙂

Imagine spending millions of present day money building that thing to initiate 50 or 100 knights. Then building a shortcut in the middle for the 10 who don’t want to walk the whole 9 floors.

🤣🤣🤣 oh that’s a good one. I think we should get our politicians to do this, no short cuts or guides for them 🤭
