The Footbridge

One of the two pedestrian overpasses in my neighborhood got renovated and reopened. Here’s how it looked in the beginning of January and today.

We had no easy access to the park for 6 weeks, which affected the number of steps I make.

I don’t think the overpasses are practical. They are inaccessible and difficult to maintain. The elevators get used as toilets. I think a real solution would be a traffic light and slowing down the traffic on the main boulevard (Tsarigradsko Shose). It’s too noisy and dirty as is, it’s not just that it cuts Mladost in half and the wrong half is miserable despite the park.

Speaking of the park, I finally visited it today. The temperature was -10° C. Some very cold 5k steps.

  1. Veselin, It was an eye opener for me to view your post today. I had no idea Sofia got snow and such low temperatures. I spent 3 months in Bansko last summer and was told that the town itself rarely got snow. Yet, Bansko is at a higher elevation than Sofia. Can you explain this to me? Thanks! 1. The ski zone in Bansko reliably has snow because it’s cold enough and they use the machines. However, whether the town itself is covered with snow or not depends on your luck. You can ski from Todorka to Bansko itself right now using the ski path but this is not always possible.

Sofia doesn’t get a lot of snow, maybe 1-2 months/year. We get 10-15cm, then 5 days later there’s a warm day and it melts.
