My daily walk got me to this iconic place in Sofia, which I frequently feature here. It’s probably the prettiest area in the city, although I see some competition forming around Doctor’s Garden and some other places. It’s dominated by tourists during the day and by young locals drinking beer during the night.
Some trivia, in case you get there:
- There’s a dude selling expensive balloons who wears shorts from April. You see a dude selling balloons with shorts, it means the spring is here. It can be freezing cold, doesn’t matter.
- There are older men playing chess. Some coins get exchanged, playing is not free.
- The best place to visit within this garden, apart from the benches with this particular view, is the City Gallery. I’ve never regretted visiting it.
- One of the best vegetarian restaurants is just behind (and to the left), called Satsanga
- Starbucks Srebarna is good but doesn’t have a nice toilet, you’d be happier visiting one of the two McDonalds in the area

I wish I knew about Satsanga We ate at Shtastlivetsa, and its Mish-Mash was really good. So good that we ate at their location in Tarnovo a week later. 😊 Maggie

Shtastlivetsa used to be a top spot for lunch & dinner with friends coming from abroad. The main restaurant is on Vitosha boulevard, where we don’t usually go, but they have another one near the National TV, where we also don’t usually go 🙂

Many thanks for the travel tips. We always meant to visit after a local supermarket used to regularly stock Bulgarian wine from the Thracian Valley. It was the one we always bought. I suppose wanting to visit a place because you love a bottle of wine that was produced there might be a shallow reason for choosing to visit but I love all your posts about Sofia.
One day…..when I can bring myself to put Spencer in kennels.

I no longer actively drink but from my wine times, my favourites were the Katarzhyna estate red wines – Mezzek, Katarzhyna and a few others.

I’ll definitely see if I can find some suppliers of those wines here. So far we haven’t had much luck sourcing Bulgarian wine since the supermarket stopped stocking it just before COVID.

We have a similar dude in my hometown who wears tiny denim shorts year round. When we see him wearing long pants then we know it’s cold or Winter has started 😁.
That’s another beautiful location. My husband had visited Bulgaria a few years back.

Yes, they are almost next to each other. Costa is cozier but you can’t hide with your laptop.
