I try to not get too attached to items, within reason.
We need items to live and be comfortable but they’re all temporary and should not be worshipped or held dear. Worse, we need to plan for their taxes, insurance, storage, disposal, and replacement. Cars are a good example where many people tend to overspend. I believe the car needs to be able to move people between two points, needs to work well, and needs to provide good safety features. But a car should be replaceable, should not have a name, and should not be treated as anything other than a transportation device, and should not be a reason for a person to be in debt.
The things you own end up owning you

One small exception in my life are books, where I have plenty and like watching them. But I know I can get rid of books by donating them so I’m not too attached. I celebrate the books that leave home to open space for new books.
I’ve had my car 15 yrs now, still under 80,000 miles..covering it in 🐱 stickers so it can be forever known as The Cat Mobile

A car that runs, stickers or not. I’ve heard that stickers of any kind, even cat stickers, indicate aggressive driving

Our cabin was recently threatened by a wildfire. It was a good exercise deciding what we wanted to save and what to leave to chance. Thankfully, the fire got stopped before reaching our cabin, but now we have to haul all the stuff back there!

I’m so sorry you had such a traumatic experience. But yes, items need to be carried around and stored, and considered needed, or not needed.
Just stuff.

Love this perspective. Items are only items, we attach meaning to them

Honestly, these days I don’t think a lot about items, or material stuff. Not just because I can’t really afford them right now, but because in recent years, through my own hardships and struggles, I’ve come to learn that none of these things really truly matter. The stuff that really matters is what’s on the inside. But hey, if I have to name at least one thing, then yeah, I would say it is my current tablet device. I use it for everything that I need to do, work studies, writing. It is the one device I depend on the most on a daily basis.
