Book Clutter

I’m starting to think the ideal number of books to own is almost zero. I feel like one should only keep books that are either signed, gifts, not yet read, or for some reason frequently re-read. Everything else serves very little to no purpose and only forms clutter. The individual books are pretty big units of kipple that reduces the living space of book worms like me.

I keep an overflow shelf where books are prepared for donation but I seem to have been slow with getting rid of old books and very quick with buying new ones.

  1. I’ve taken to donating my books unless I expect to read them again. And even then, I sometimes get rid of them if it won’t be in the near future that I crack them open again. I am weird (perhaps) in that I almost prefer ebooks over physical ones. The rest of my family thinks I’m weird anyway, but I am also the one with an uncluttered space — so there’s that.

    1. The uncluttered spaces at home are achieved at the expense of a storage room that collects all the clutter, including the vast majority of my books. I’m contemplating getting rid of the books by Brandon Sanderson, for example and have already started donating Harlan Coben, Michael Connelly and other favorite authors. But I still have so many.
