AI and Blaze

The AI ad generator outperformed me in Blaze.

Blaze is WordPress.com’s internal ad system (Tools > Advertising). I decided to give it a try and ran 2 campaigns. The first was for a random Book post with an AI generated ad, and the second was for one of my best long reads with a hand-crafted ad copy.

The AI-generated one had a $0.3 CPC compared to $0.56 for my post. I also got fewer impressions.

The CPC that I achieved was okay but my blog is not a business, and doesn’t deserve it yet.

  1. I’ve been thinking of trying it out as well, but it seems like it would just be like wasting money and not getting real readers, clicks etc.

    Did you get any real subscribers from this or notice a spike in views? I’d really like to know.

    1. I can attribute one comment and one subscriber to the second campaign because it was on the old post that would normally get zero views. Apart from that – not sure.

      I think my blog is not very interesting.

      1. Yeah, that’s some bad results. I think your blog is good, though. Perhaps write more personal things to spice things up? I’d love to see more of what you think about this and that.

      2. Thanks. I’ll try doing at least one writing prompt per week.

        Apart from that, the long posts where I share research on personal growth issues take lots of energy. I don’t think I can write more than 3-4 such posts per year. And then nobody reads them 🙂

      7. So true. I only use AI for image generating and to get some ideas sometimes. Otherwise I hate it. I don’t need it for anything else. I am hoping that the AI craze will die out ASAP.

      8. Bitcoin is still around. AI is more impactful. I feel it will last for longer.

        For now, it makes blogging worse, google search useless, news articles suspicious. Social networks feel like bot farms. I’m yet to see a positive impact.
