
There’s a legend that bringing rocks down from Vesuvius makes the bad luck come home with you. Not sure what the origin of the story is, perhaps Pele’s Curse from Hawaii. Pele, the goddess of volcanoes, doesn’t like her rocks taken away by tourists. Wash your shoes if you visit Vesuvius.

Volcanoes are alive and are mesmerizing. I would love to see Vesuvis, but I won’t take anything with me. I feel the same about most treasured places.

We have a sacred forest in my hometown where we cannot take anything at all. We can walk around and inside but we cannot take anything. It seems the deity is displeased. It is a protected forest.
