Slop grenade

Phrase of the day, thanks to Shopify’s CEO, who used it.

A slop grenade is when a person uses a small prompt to generate one or multiple walls of texts that then need to be read and understood by others. The slop grenade doesn’t need to be bad slop. There can be some good meaning in the wall of text. The issue is with the deferred understanding. In order to truly process it, you need to either spend unreasonable amount of time or use agents and throw the grenade back.

I experience this somewhat often but had no words for it. I’m in love with this phrase.

      1. This can’t be anything other than a joke. It reminds me of the early years after the fall of the communism. The radical communists started creating lists for people to exterminate after they take the power back. I learned that I’m on one such list randomly, with a photo and personal information, it was quite disturbing.

      2. Now there’s a sobering reminder that casual joking does not always land the same way for everyone, and that there are times in recent history where people have been really bad to one another in their quest for power. It’s important to remember so that it doesn’t happen again. We’re all closer than we thing, and I’m so sorry Veselin, that would be a terrifying feeling, especially as you have a family.

The phrase “When I am king you will be first against the wall” is a lyric from the Radiohead song ‘Paranoid Android.’ I can’t say for 100% why they wrote it, but my guess is they’re trying to remind us of the devastation that is the inevitable result of cults of personality and fascist regimes. I hope that helps.

      3. Who can afford blindfolds in this economy? I was just going to tell them to close their eyes 😉

So to recap. I don’t have a plan. You don’t have a plan. I guess we’ll have to rely on Veselin to come up with a plan for us….
